Condoléances
As one of the attendees of the dessin sous-jacent conference for many years, I would like to express my sincere condolences for the loss of a personable, dedicated scholar who advanced the field of technical studies in art history. Without the dedication and continuing efforts of Roger van Schoute, the field would not be where it is today. He created a large community of like-minded scholars through his activities as teacher, administrator, mentor, editor, collaborator, author, and on and on. Hopefully, the likes of someone like him may appear to guide us in our future researches.
It is with great sadness that i learned today of Roger Van Schoute's passing away. He will be remembered as a kind scholar and modest man who was one of the leading powers behind the influential biannual congres "Les dessin sous-jacent dans la peinture" in Louvain, a platform where many art historians interested in technical studies and / or Early Netherlandish Painting took the podium for the first time.
